Job summary

Vaco Staffing is partnering with a growing transportation and logistics organization in Jacksonville, FL, to identify an experienced Controller or Controller-in-Waiting who will grow into the top accounting leadership role. You will work hands-on with operations while preparing reports, audits, and strategic financial planning.

The role is fully onsite, with a transition period to learn the business from the ground up.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
• Experience in leadership roles such as Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or Controller.
• Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting (AP, AR, GL) and GAAP.
• Experience with external auditors and financial reporting.
• Advanced ERP/accounting systems experience and ability to learn new systems quickly.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, GL, reconciliations, and full-cycle accounting.
• Review balance sheet, cash, loan, prepaid, tax accrual, and other accounts; prepare monthly and annual financial statements.
• Ensure timely, GAAP-compliant financial reporting; support budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
• Coordinate with external auditors and assist with tax reporting and compliance.
• Lead and mentor the accounting team across multiple entities/locations; drive process improvements.
