Job summary

Whitman-Walker Health in Washington, DC seeks an Assistant Controller to support the finance department in full-cycle financial statements and administration. The role oversees general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, overhead allocations, fixed assets, AP/AR, cash reporting, and monthly closings, reporting to the Deputy CFO.

Responsibilities include preparing GAAP-compliant statements, strengthening internal controls, coordinating with Grants and Payroll, assisting with audits and IRS/UDS

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
• Ability to manage month-end close processes and consolidation.
• Experience with grants, contracts, and revenue recognition in a nonprofit environment.
• Strong internal controls and audit readiness.

Responsibilities

• Support full-cycle financial statement production in accordance with GAAP.
• Oversee general ledger maintenance and reconciliations.
• Manage monthly overhead allocations, fixed assets, and bank reconciliations.
• Coordinate AP/AR, cash reporting, and monthly closings.
• Assist with audits, regulatory reporting, and UD S/IRS filings.
