Job summary

Commonwealth Catholic Charities is seeking an Assistant Controller to oversee all core accounting functions for a nonprofit, ensuring GAAP compliance and donor/grant requirements. The role supports audits, budgeting, and staff oversight, and researches complex transactions for proper accounting treatment.

Responsibilities include month-end close, financial reporting to leadership and external stakeholders, and maintaining strong internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting required.
• Minimum five years of accounting experience, including one year in supervision.
• CPA certification a plus; nonprofit experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and close processes.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and donor/grant requirements.
• Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual financial reports for leadership and board.
• Support audits and coordination with external auditors.
• Monitor restricted and unrestricted funds and donor restrictions.
• Develop and implement financial policies and procedures.
• Assist with regulatory filings including IRS Form 990.
