Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to build the accounting foundation of a growing firearms manufacturing business. You will partner with operations, drive cost accounting, inventory accuracy, and scalable reporting to support long-term growth.

This hands-on role involves improving systems, turning financial data into actionable insights, and collaborating with leadership on strategic financial decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong manufacturing, cost accounting, and inventory accounting experience.
• Experience with financial reporting, month-end close, and general ledger management.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• QuickBooks experience required.
• CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
• Experience in acquisitions, startups, business transitions, or high-growth environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
• Manage general ledger, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting.
• Own manufacturing cost accounting, inventory valuation, and variance analysis.
• Partner with Operations to understand cost drivers and improve performance.
• Analyze inventory activity, cycle counts, and inventory controls.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and working capital planning.
• Help establish accounting processes, controls, and reporting for a growing organization.
• Collaborate with leadership on financial analysis and business decisions.
• Support audit, tax, banking, and compliance requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting, systems, and operational efficiency.
• Assist with future ERP implementation and process improvements.

As our Assistant Controller, you'll help build the accounting foundation of a growing firearms manufacturing business.
