A fast-growing technology and manufacturing company is seeking a Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting function and serve as a key financial partner to leadership. This role is ideal for a strong Controller who has owned the close, understands manufacturing and inventory-driven accounting, and is ready to take the next step in their career.
The Controller will be responsible for building structure, tightening processes, and ensuring financial accuracy as the business grows in complexity across product lines, production facilities, and entities. This is a hands-on role that blends technical accounting, operational leadership, and cross-functional partnership.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Close
- Own the full monthly, quarterly, and annual close process
- Ensure accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Maintain and improve the general ledger, chart of accounts, and account reconciliations
- Oversee journal entries, accruals, revenue recognition, and reserves
- Partner with FP&A and leadership to explain variances and trends
- Own inventory accounting across raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
- Oversee standard costing, job/production costing, and COGS analysis
- Partner with operations and manufacturing on inventory controls, cycle counts, and physical inventories
- Monitor inventory reserves, obsolescence, and scrap/yield variances
- Support margin analysis and cost optimization initiatives across product lines
AP, AR & Cash Management
- Oversee AP, AR, and cash disbursements
- Ensure strong controls around bill pay, vendor management, and collections
- Monitor cash flow and support short-term liquidity forecasting
- Improve processes and controls as transaction volume and production scale increase
Systems, Process & Controls
- Own and optimize the accounting system and related tools (NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar ERP)
- Build scalable accounting processes and internal controls suitable for a growing manufacturing operation
- Improve documentation, workflows, and close timelines
- Partner with external auditors, tax advisors, and consultants
- Support audit and tax compliance processes
Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff (or outsourced partners)
- Act as a trusted partner to Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, Sales, and FP&A
- Translate accounting concepts into clear insights for non-finance stakeholders
- Bring a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset to problem solving
Qualifications
- 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting experience (Big 4 or regional firm)
- Background in technology-enabled manufacturing, hardware, industrials, or other inventory-heavy businesses strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and manufacturing/inventory accountingExperience owning month-end close and preparing financial statements
- ERP experience required (NetSuite strongly preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills; comfort in data-heavy environments
- CPA preferred but not required
- Hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a fast‑paced, evolving business
