Job summary

Pacific Crest Group, serving Bay Area SMBs, is expanding its Accounting team and seeks an Assistant Controller to oversee full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of clients. You’ll own month-end close, financial reporting, and mentor junior staff while coordinating across client teams.

This hybrid role requires Mondays in the San Rafael HQ, with direct client communication and proactive identification of issues to improve outcomes. You’ll work closely with a Controller to grow professionally.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of full-cycle accounting experience.
• BA degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent years of experience.
• Demonstrated track record of independent work as an staff accountant or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and how day-to-day accounting impacts financial statements.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks, Bill.com and Excel; Asana or similar PM tools is a plus.
• Experience mentoring, training, or coaching junior accounting staff.
• Strong project management and prioritization skills.
• Able to manage multiple deadlines with accuracy.
• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and live within commuting distance of San Rafael, CA.

Responsibilities

• Own full-cycle accounting for a set of assigned clients — A/P, A/R, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reports.
• Review and validate work before Controller review.
• Identify discrepancies, errors, red flags, unusual items, and raise questions early.
• Understand how numbers connect to financial statements and client needs.
• Communicate with clients on day-to-day matters, looping in the Controller as needed.
• Provide day-to-day guidance to junior accountants on client accounts.
• Coordinate workflows, priorities, deadlines, and delegation across client team.
• Maintain accurate client procedures, checklists, and workflow docs in Asana.
• Flag workload or risk issues early and discuss resource needs.
