Vaco by Highspring seeks an Assistant Controller to join its expanding accounting team in Birmingham, AL. This role leverages public accounting experience in a corporate setting with exposure to financial reporting, leadership, and process improvement.

You will support monthly closes, GAAP reporting, audits, and cross-functional collaboration as the company scales. The role is fully on-site, offering opportunities for growth and engagement with senior finance leaders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• CPA or CPA-track candidate preferred.
• 2-3 years of public accounting experience required.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
• Audit experience preferred.
• Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP systems.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with finance leadership and operations.

Responsibilities

• Support the monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and variance analysis.
• Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
• Partner with accounting and operational teams to ensure timely and accurate reporting across multiple business units.
• Support annual audits and coordinate requests from external auditors.
• Assist with tax compliance, regulatory filings, and various reporting requirements.
• Help maintain internal controls and improve accounting processes as the company scales.
• Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.
• Assist with acquisition integration projects and other strategic growth initiatives.
• Work with accounting leadership on special projects and process improvements.
