Job summary

STPSO in Slidell, LA is seeking an Assistant Controller to join the Accounting/Finance department. The role reports to the Controller and is non-exempt.

The successful candidate will assist with month-end close, internal controls, grants accounting, and financial reporting including the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. Active CPA and governmental accounting experience preferred; strong Excel and communication skills required.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license and 2+ years related experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA eligibility is acceptable.
• Governmental accounting experience preferred; GASB knowledge beneficial.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to multi-task.
• Proficiency in Excel and internal controls principles.

Responsibilities

• Assist Controller with month-end and year-end close processes.
• Prepare, review and approve journal entries; manage reconciliations.
• Oversee inventory and capital asset accounting; grant accounting/compliance.
• Assist in CAFR preparation and coordination with auditors.
• Supervise finance staff; support budget reporting and special projects.
