Job summary

The Washoe County School District seeks an Assistant Controller to lead district-wide accounting operations, including the general ledger, payables, assets, and student funds, to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Under the Controller, the role coordinates ACFR and OPEB statements, supports audits, and ensures compliance with grants and regulatory requirements while supervising accounting staff and strengthening internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or related field required.
• Five years of professional accounting experience, with governmental accounting preferred.
• Three years in a supervisory capacity.

Responsibilities

• Oversees and maintains the district's general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, accounts receivable, and student activity funds accounting systems.
• Ensures accounting system integrity, data accuracy, and proper use of financial systems.
• Designs and develops financial reports and ensures payroll, accounts payable, and general ledger interfacing.
• Supervises preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Assists with ACFR preparation and coordination with internal staff.
• Maintains subsidiary ledgers and reconciles accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed asset records.
• Prepares journal entries and adjustments; performs cost analyses and financial research.
• Stays current on GASB pronouncements and advises leadership on new requirements.
