Job summary

Washoe County School District seeks a Senior Accountant to supervise and coordinate accounting functions in the Business Office, including proprietary funds, general ledger, capital projects, and annual financial reporting. The role supports the ACFR and SEFA, ensuring accurate schedules and compliance.

Responsibilities include preparing complex statements, closing entries, reconciliations, and training staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
• Three (3) years of professional accounting experience required. Governmental accounting experience preferred.
• Knowledge of GAAP, GASB standards, and fund accounting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepares complex financial schedules & statements.
• Monitors and records complex transactions, including revenue recognition, expense allocation, depreciation, and cost recovery.
• Complete accurate year-end closing entries, including accruals, deferrals and capital asset adjustments.
• Performs and reviews bank and account reconciliations, prepare journal entries for maintaining account balances and distributing costs.
• Prepares audit schedules for the annual audit, quarterly financial reports for the proprietary funds, ACFR, and SEFA.
• Assists with maintaining the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets.
• Conducts accounting for various district funds and maintains chart of accounts with consistent coding.
• Manages accounting activities for capital improvement and construction projects.
