Job summary

McDonald Automotive Group, a Colorado-based family-owned dealer group, seeks an experienced Assistant Controller – Fixed Operations to lead accounting across multiple entities, including real estate, inventory, and insurance-related operations. You will partner with Service and Parts management, ensuring accurate reporting and strong internal controls.

Reporting to the Senior Controller, you will drive month-end close, analyze P&L variances, and mentor a growing accounting team.

Qualifications

• At least three years of progressive accounting experience involving general-ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial-statement analysis.
• Experience with inventory accounting, reconciliation, and financial controls.
• Experience supervising, coaching, or leading accounting employees.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA preferred.
• Experience with dealership management systems (Tekion, CDK) advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting for assigned real-estate entities, inventory, and insurance-related operations.
• Lead month-end close for assigned departments and entities; review GL activity and reconciliations.
• Translate financial results into actionable guidance for operational leaders; monitor P&L and balance sheet variances.
• Coach and develop accounting staff; ensure accuracy, timeliness, and policy adherence.
• Support audits, implement process improvements, and maintain robust internal controls.
