Job summary

Ultimate Staffing is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its accounting leadership team in Michigan. The role oversees daily accounting operations, drives GAAP-compliant financial reporting, and leads process improvements to support growth and compliance.

You will mentor a sizable team and partner with operations to deliver timely insights. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong analytical skills, and a proven track record in multi-location

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
Proven experience developing and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Experience with ERP systems, financial analysis, data mining, and reporting tools.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Microsoft Access is a plus.
Retail, distribution, or multi-location business experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead key accounting functions including financial reporting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, internal audit, tax compliance, and audits.
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of up to 20 accounting professionals.
Ensure timely preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements and variance analyses.
Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual management reports.
Oversee tax compliance work papers and filings.
Oversee high-volume accounts payable and maintain strong internal controls.
