Job summary

Catalyst, based in Houston, seeks an experienced Assistant Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations within our construction and HVAC focus. You will report to the CFO, ensure timely financial reporting, and strengthen internal controls while supporting financial planning and operations across projects.

Responsibilities include managing AP/AR/payroll/GL, month-end close, job costing, budgeting, and audits.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
Construction and/or HVAC industry experience required.
Strong understanding of full cycle accounting (AP, AR, payroll, GL).
Experience with job costing and WIP reporting.
GAAP and internal controls knowledge.
Advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, modeling).
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Assist the Controller in managing all accounting operations (AP, AR, payroll, GL).
Oversee month-end and year-end close, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations.
Prepare financial statements monthly/quarterly/annually.
Oversee job costing, WIP reporting, and profitability analyses for construction/HVAC projects.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
Develop and monitor internal controls and accounting procedures.
Assist with audits, tax filings, and compliance.
Analyze financial data and prepare variances and management reports.
Partner with project managers to ensure accurate job cost tracking.
