Fervo Energy seeks an Assistant Controller to own core close, general ledger, and reporting activities across multiple entities. The role supports the Controller, building strong controls, audit-ready documentation, and scalable processes for a public-company environment.

Based in Houston, TX, the Assistant Controller will lead the accounting team, improve reconciliations, and drive process improvements while partnering with Finance, Operations, Tax, and external advisors in a fast-growing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong monthly close and general ledger ownership.
• Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, allocations, and close support.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP, internal controls, and audit-ready workpaper standards.
• Experience managing multiple entities, intercompany activity, or complex allocations.
• Advanced Excel skills and comfort with ERP reports, trial balances, reconciliations, and close analytics.
• Ability to lead, coach, review work, and partner cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end month-end close of ad hoc and recurring close activities across multiple entities.
• Drive close timing, dependencies, and reviewer follow-up to ensure timely close.
• Partner with Operations Accounting, Treasury, Tax, and Financial Reporting for complete and accurate entries.
• Review monthly results with the Controller, including flux analyses and accrual positions.
• Own balance sheet reconciliation quality and develop documentation embedded in recurring workpapers.
• Lead SOX readiness and deliver internal control evidence for close, reconciliations, allocations, and accrual processes.
• Identify manual close tasks to simplify, standardize, or automate.
• Hire, develop, and cross-train staff to ensure continuity and ownership.
