Catalogue seeks an Assistant Controller to oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls across multiple locations. This hands-on leadership role partners with the Corporate Controller and guides the accounting team to ensure accurate, timely reporting and compliance with GAAP.

The role requires 5+ years in restaurant/multi-entity accounting, a Bachelor's in Accounting, and strong Excel/Restaurant365/Toast proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
• 5+ years of progressive restaurant/multi-entity accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and restaurant industry accounting practices.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Restaurant365, Toast POS and other accounting software.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Leadership or mentoring experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Controller to join the Catalogue team. This individual must be a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of restaurant accounting principles and practices to oversee key aspects of the accounting function, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls across multiple locations and entities.

This is a hands-on leadership role that combines deep technical accounting expertise with oversight of the day-to-day accounting function. The Assistant Controller acts as the Controller's right hand, providing functional leadership to the accounting team while partnering closely with the Controller on strategic priorities.

What You'll Do

Financial Reporting

• Perform daily, monthly/period related accounting procedures for multiple locations and legal entities.
• Manage companies in a 4-4-4, 13 period environment.
• Oversight of the reconciliation of 25+ bank accounts each period.
• Approve and authorize sales tax calculation and payments.
• Prepare, review, and sign off on all Balance Sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain Fixed Asset and Depreciation/Amortization Schedules.
• Lead the accounting team's preparation of quarterly and annual audits with an outside firm.
• Oversight and assist with period accounting close.
• Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant regulations.
• Organize, submit and complete multiple property tax returns in multiple jurisdictions in a timely and accurate manner.
• Review, analyze, and enact internal processes and procedures, providing suggestions for improvement where applicable.
• Assist in developing and formalizing departmental SOPs.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

Budgeting and Forecasting

• Assist in the development and management of annual budgets and forecasts for the entire restaurant group.
• Provide financial analysis to support executive level and operational decision-making.

Internal Controls

• Design, implement, and enforce internal controls procedures to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Conduct reviews of internal controls to identify and mitigate risks.

Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Serve as a technical mentor and go-to resource for accounting staff, providing guidance on complex transactions, reconciliations, and restaurant-specific accounting practices.
• Review team members' work for accuracy and troubleshoot discrepancies before they reach the Controller.
• Assist with training new accounting team members on company processes and systems (R365, Toast, etc.).
• Foster a collaborative, high-standards culture within the accounting function.
• Partner daily/weekly with restaurant-level management teams to ensure accurate, timely reporting from the field.

System Implementation and Maintenance

• Assist in implementing and maintaining accounting systems, including Restaurant365, to ensure efficient and accurate financial operations.
• Stay current on industry trends and best practices.

What We're Looking For

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• Experience: 5+ years of progressive restaurant/multi-entity accounting experience, including prior experience in an Assistant Controller or equivalent senior role.
• Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of GAAP and restaurant industry accounting practices.
• Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Restaurant365, Toast POS and other accounting software.
• Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Leadership & Mentorship: Experience mentoring or informally guiding junior accounting staff preferred.
• Communication: Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
• Work Ethic: Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Compensation

Salary: $120,000/year
