Job summary

LHH is seeking an Assistant Controller / Senior Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting for a large, project-based business unit. You will oversee weekly and monthly close processes, financial reporting, and close activities while partnering with operations, project management, procurement, and executive leadership.

Reporting to the Division Controller, you will develop the accounting team, drive process improvements, support audits and internal controls, and provide financial analysis

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Experience supporting a project-based business environment, preferably construction/engineering or related industries.
  • Strong understanding of project accounting fundamentals: job costing, WIP, revenue recognition, budgeting, forecasting, profitability analysis.

  • Assist with audits, insurance reviews, and compliance initiatives.
  • Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and finance transformation initiatives.

  • Partner closely with operations, project management, procurement, and executive leadership to support business performance and decision-making.
  • Review project financial results, cost trends, forecasts, profitability, and key performance indicators.
  • Support payroll, billing, cash flow management, collections, and other operational accounting activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and GAAP requirements.
  • Assist with audits, insurance reviews, and other financial compliance initiatives.
  • Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and finance transformation initiatives that improve efficiency and reporting capabilities.
  • Provide financial analysis and business insights to support operational and strategic decisions.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Experience supporting a project-based business environment, ideally within construction, engineering, specialty contracting, industrial services, infrastructure, or related industries.
  • Strong understanding of project accounting fundamentals, including job costing, WIP reporting, revenue recognition, budgeting, forecasting, and project profitability analysis.
  • Proven ability to manage accounting processes in a complex, high-volume operating environment.
  • Prior people leadership experience preferred; candidates with significant cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management experience are also encouraged to apply.
  • Experience partnering with operational leaders and translating financial information into actionable business insights.
  • Exposure to ERP implementations, systems upgrades, process improvement projects, shared services initiatives, or broader finance transformation efforts.
  • CPA or MBA is a plus.
