Full-Time | Large Publicly Traded Household Products Manufacturer
A household products manufacturer is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join its corporate finance team. This role supports a major business unit within a large, publicly traded organization whose trusted brands are widely recognized across North America and internationally.
As Assistant Controller, you’ll collaborate with senior finance leadership to tackle operational and financial challenges that impact the business. You’ll gain valuable insight into how a business unit operates within a complex corporate structure, while helping drive meaningful improvements. The company is currently investing in a state-of-the-art office upgrade, making this an exciting time to join!
This is a hybrid role based in the northern suburbs of Chicago, with in-office presence required Tuesday through Thursday.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations of the corporate accounting function, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including financial consolidations and SEC reporting support.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls in accordance with U.S. GAAP, SOX compliance, and corporate policy.
- Serve as the primary contact for internal and external audits; implement recommendations and report on outcomes.
- Provide accounting oversight for domestic and international operations, including intercompany transactions and foreign currency hedging.
- Collaborate with IT to manage ERP access controls and ensure proper segregation of duties.
- Support integration of acquired entities and lead accounting-related aspects of M&A activity.
- Drive process improvements across systems, workflows, and reporting.
- Mentor and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a publicly traded company
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing or leading accounting teams
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience in manufacturing or consumer packaged goods (CPG)
- Background in public accounting or corporate accounting with a public company
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage complex projects
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation or eligibility
- Experience with SAP or Oracle ERP systems
- Exposure to international accounting and foreign currency transactions
- Experience supporting M&A integration and audit readiness
- Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills
- Base Salary: $115,000 – $135,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications
- Bonus: Annual performance-based incentive
