The Assistant Financial Controller supports the organization's financial operations by ensuring accurate reporting, sound budgeting, and adherence to regulatory standards. This role is integral to financial planning, analysis, and reporting, helping leadership make informed strategic decisions. The individual will oversee accounting staff, manage audits, maintain internal controls, and collaborate with external stakeholders such as auditors and financial advisors.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • CPA or CMA certification or willingness to obtain is REQUIRED.
  • 4–8 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Construction Industry Accounting experience is REQUIRED
  • Experience with WIP and Percentage to completion is REQUIRED

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to reduce financial risk.
  • Supervise and support accounting team members, promoting professional development and process improvement.
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure financial reporting complies with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Recommend key performance indicators to assess business performance.
  • Provide financial insights to support pricing strategies and cost management.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax professionals, and other advisors during audits and reporting cycles.
  • Evaluate and enhance accounting software and systems for better financial oversight.
  • Manage fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
  • Conduct credit assessments for new clients and vendors.
  • Support risk management and insurance renewal processes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • In-depth understanding of financial reporting, GAAP, and internal controls.
  • Proficient in accounting software and financial systems.
  • Effective at managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent tools.
  • Familiarity with enterprise financial or project-based accounting systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of regulatory considerations and Construction industry-specific compliance requirements is REQUIRED.
