Private Equity Firm in Pittsburgh, PA seeks an experienced Assistant Controller to lead management company accounting, upper-tier entity reporting, and financial operations. You will oversee day-to-day accounting workflows and partner across investment, compliance, and investor relations teams.
This role drives budgeting, cash management, and strategic initiatives, with a focus on process improvements and AI-enabled reporting workflows.
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented accounting professional to lead management company accounting, upper-tier entity reporting, and financial operations. In this role, you will oversee day-to-day accounting workflows, drive budgeting and cash management, and partner cross-functionally across our investment, compliance, and investor relations teams. You will also play a key role in advancing process improvements, system implementations, and leveraging modern technologies like AI to optimize reporting workflows.
Financial Oversight & Reporting: Lead monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc accounting and reporting for management companies and upper-tier entities.
Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor the Staff Accountant overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank/cash reconciliations.
Financial Planning & Analysis: Drive budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash management strategy to support firm growth.
External Coordination: Serve as a primary point of contact for fund administrators, external auditors, and tax advisors.
Compliance & Governance: Review, interpret, and ensure ongoing compliance with LPAs, operating agreements, and related legal documentation.
Modernize Workflows: Develop and refine accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiency—including integrating AI initiatives into daily workflows.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with investment, compliance, investor relations, and operations teams to support firm-wide decision-making.
Strategic Initiatives: Help lead accounting software/system implementations, special projects, and ad-hoc financial analysis for senior leadership.
Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; active CPA strongly preferred.
Experience: 6+ years of progressive accounting experience (a blend of public accounting and private equity/asset management experience is ideal).
Technical Mastery: Solid foundation in US GAAP, partnership accounting, and investment management accounting principles.
Leadership & Tech Savvy: Strong project management skills, experience mentoring junior staff, and an interest in leveraging new financial technology/automation tools.
