Job summary

Atlantic Group in Midtown Manhattan seeks an Assistant Controller to lead corporate accounting, close processes, financial reporting, and partner equity oversight. You will partner with the CFO and FP&A on forecasting and expense management, while supervising AP activities and improving processes with AI-enabled tools.

The role requires a CPA or progress toward CPA, 5-8 years of experience in corporate accounting, and strong GAAP knowledge. Advanced Excel and NetSuite experience are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
  • 5-8 years of progressive corporate accounting experience; mix of public/private is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and month-end close.

Responsibilities

  • Own monthly/quarterly close incl. journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and balance sheet management.
  • Prepare and review accrual and cash-basis financial reporting with data integrity.
  • Build KPI dashboards and perform P&L variance analysis vs budgets/forecasts.
  • Manage data in Oracle NetSuite; identify opportunities to improve workflows and reporting.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals for audits and filings.
  • Monitor partner equity activity and distributions.

Assistant Controller – Corporate Accounting & Financial Reporting

Join a highly regarded Private Equity firm in a hands‑on Assistant Controller role with direct exposure to the CFO. This position offers broad responsibility across corporate accounting, financial reporting, partnership equity, audit and tax coordination, and process improvement within a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities as the Assistant Controller:
  • Corporate Accounting & Close: Own key components of the monthly and quarterly close, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and balance sheet management.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial reporting on both an accrual and cash basis while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
  • Management Reporting & Analytics: Build KPI dashboards, prepare management reporting, and perform P&L variance analysis against budgets, forecasts, and prior periods.
  • ERP & Systems: Manage financial data within Oracle NetSuite and identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting, and data integrity.
  • Audit & Tax Coordination: Partner with external auditors on annual financial statement audits and provide financial reporting to outside tax professionals for quarterly estimates and annual filings.
  • Partnership Accounting: Monitor partner equity activity, including buy‑in schedules, equity calculations, distributions, and related partner reporting and communications.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Partner with the CFO and FP&A team on forecasting, expense management, and other financial planning initiatives.
  • Team Oversight: Supervise accounts payable activity, including invoice review, GL coding, vendor management, and timely payment processing.
  • Process Improvement & AI: Leverage advanced Excel, technology, and AI tools to automate manual workflows, improve reporting, and increase efficiency across the finance function.
Qualifications for the Assistant Controller:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 5-8 years of progressive corporate accounting experience; a combination of public accounting and industry experience is preferred.
  • Industry Background: Experience within professional services, asset management, private equity, private credit, hedge funds, legal services, or another sophisticated corporate environment is highly relevant.
  • Accounting Knowledge: Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, accrual accounting, general ledger accounting, month‑end close, and financial reporting.
  • Partnership Experience: Exposure to partnership accounting, partnership equity, or partnership tax is a strong plus.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH, and IF statements; Oracle NetSuite experience preferred.
  • Technology: Technologically savvy with an interest in leveraging AI and automation to improve accounting and finance processes.
  • Attributes: Sharp, articulate, and confident with strong attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
Compensation & Work Arrangement:
  • Target Total Compensation: Approximately $200,000
  • Work Arrangement: 4 days in office / 1 day remote
  • Location: Midtown Manhattan
