Job summary

Creative Financial Staffing, LLC is partnering with a respected Connecticut institution in Greater New Haven to recruit an Assistant Controller. This deputy-level finance leadership role offers broad responsibility across a large, decentralized operation and a hybrid work arrangement.

You will supervise day-to-day finance activities, implement policies and controls, and provide budgeting analysis to senior leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
• CPA and/or public accounting background highly preferred.
• Strong command of financial accounting, reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience leading teams within a large, decentralized organization.
• Advanced Excel skills; Workday experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day finance operations including journal entries, payroll, purchasing, billing/AR, tax reporting, and reconciliations.
• Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls; ensure audit readiness and compliance.
• Build unit financial plans and budgets, and deliver analysis and reporting to leadership.
• Resolve complex accounting and compliance issues as the primary finance contact for assigned units.
• Oversee key administrative functions such as onboarding, system access approvals, and staff training.
• Hire, develop, and lead a high-performing finance team.
