Job summary

Blake-Ryan & Associates, a Los Angeles-based manufacturer/distributor, seeks an experienced Assistant Controller to lead month-end close, cash management, payroll and multi-entity accounting. You will work with US, Europe and Asia teams and liaise with external auditors and advisors.

The role requires a strong GAAP background, internal controls, and prior supervisory experience; CPA is preferred. Local candidates or those relocating to LA are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of accounting experience.
• Leadership experience in a management role.
• Experience in a multi-location, multi-entity environment.
• Month-end close and auditing experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
• CPA is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee month-end close, cash, payroll, compliance, multi-entity accounting, and day-to-day finance systems.
• Collaborate with local accounting teams in US, Europe and Asia and with external auditors.
• Oversee multi-entity close and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Manage cash/treasury, AP batches and bank reconciliations.
• Oversee payroll processing and HR/payroll controls.
• Coordinate tax filings, audits and external advisors.
• Provide management reporting and risk oversight.

Controller

Desired profile

• Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) plus a minimum of 10 years of accounting experience
• Previous management/supervisory experience in a similar role - strong leadership skills are critical.
• Company has 7 locations and the right candidate will have experience in a complex, multi-location environment,
• Must have month end closing and auditing experience.
• Must have strong knowledge of GAAP and Internal Controls.
• CPA is preferred

Role in brie f

Responsible for month-end close, cash, payroll, compliance, multi-entity accounting, and day-to-day ownership of finance systems, banks, tax and insurance. Works with local accounting teams in the US, Europe and Asia, plus external auditors and advisors.

Core responsibility areas

1. Multi-entity financial control and close

• Month-end close across all divisions
• Balance sheet reconciliations and correct GL posting
• Inventory balances

2. Cash, treasury and payments

• Daily cash management, including incoming wires, ACH and auto-debits
• Approval and release of wires and ACH
• Weekly AP batches
• Bank reconciliations (Wells Fargo, Lloyds, US Bank)
• Payment processor batches and reconciliation
• Landed cost, duty, tariff and key supplier payments
• Monthly commission pack approval
• Expense report audit and GL posting

3. Systems and process ownership

• NetSuite: close, reconciliations, inventory, AP/AR workflows and bank recs
• Payment and tax platforms: Adyen, Avalara, Affi...

4. Payroll, HR admin and benefits

• Bi-weekly US payroll via Paychex and posting to NetSuite
• Employee files, compliance and time & attendance

5. Tax, audit and external advisors

• Sales tax: Avalara (SST states) and monthly non-SST filings
• Estimated tax / profit figures
• Year-end audit packs for US, UK and HK advisors
• Ad-hoc legal / IP data requests

6. Insurance and risk

• Cargo/product, EPLI, general liability and umbrella
• Workers’ compensation, including annual audit
• Inventory coverage across US, UK and HK
• ERISA-related coverage

7. Accounting operations oversight

• US: weekly AR, invoice/credit memo changes and write-offs
• UK: bi-weekly AR
• HK: regular review of accounting issues with local accountant

• - Experienced hands-on Controller
• - Strong NetSuite and multi-entity / multi-currency experience
• - Comfortable owning cash control and dual-control payments
• - Able to manage US payroll/benefits admin plus overseas accounting partners
• - Detail-oriented closer who can also produce management reporting and work with auditors and tax advisors
