Working closely with senior accounting leadership, the Assistant Controller will play a critical role in month‑end close activities, financial reporting, lender and investor compliance reporting, audit support, and portfolio accounting oversight. This individual will also lead and develop a team of accounting professionals while helping ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations across multiple entities and properties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with property management and operational teams to resolve accounting issues and ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of senior and staff accountants, including workload management, performance feedback, training, and professional development.
  • Support process improvement initiatives designed to strengthen internal controls, reporting efficiency, and accounting accuracy.

Key Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within real estate, multifamily property management, or affordable housing organizations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA designation or active CPA candidacy strongly preferred.

  • Experience supporting lender reporting, investor reporting, audits, and compliance‑related financial documentation.
  • Knowledge of multifamily real estate accounting and property‑level financial reporting.
  • Experience with affordable housing programs such as HUD, CDBG, LIHTC, or other government‑funded housing initiatives is highly preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with property management or accounting platforms such as Yardi, MRI, or similar systems.
  • Prior experience managing and developing accounting staff, including performance management and workflow oversight.
