The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) safeguards and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare, juvenile justice services, and community supports. ACS manages foster care, community-based supports, and subsidized childcare vouchers. Child protection staff respond to maltreatment allegations. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placements, and community programs.
DYFJ manages secure and non-secure detention services for juveniles awaiting court disposition and oversees community-based delinquency prevention and alternative programs. It operates two secure detention facilities: Crossroads Juvenile Center in Brooklyn and Horizon Juvenile Center in the Bronx, providing comprehensive health and educational services.
