Job summary

A local community-focused organization in New Jersey is seeking a part-time sports instructor. The role involves leading practice sessions, fostering a nurturing environment, and demonstrating leadership in youth development. Ideal candidates will have experience in sports and certifications like CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid. Compensation includes a benefits package with sick leave and retirement options.

Qualifications

  • Experience in leading educational sports sessions.
  • Certification in CPR, AED, Basic First Aid.
  • Previous experience with children is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children preferred.
  • Demonstrate instructor skills per YMCA standards.
  • Experience with diverse populations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading sports practice sessions.
  • Uphold YMCA values during activities.
  • Create a nurturing learning environment.
  • Maintain relationships with students, parents, and sports officials.
  • Report to head coach and assist during practices and games.
  • Develop leadership, initiative and good judgment in athletes.
  • Create a positive learning environment for youth development and healthy living.
  • Adhere to directions given by the head coach.

Requirements
Essential Functions
  • Assist in leading a challenging and educational practice session.
  • Assist instruction of a group in accordance with YMCA guidelines and rules of the game.
  • Uphold, model, teach and put the four (4) core values of the YMCA into action in all activities - everyday: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
  • Maintain good relationship withStudents, parents andsports officials.
  • Maintain professional appearance and report on time to all scheduled practices and games.
  • Strive to develop the qualities of leadership, initiative and good judgement in all athletes.
  • Develop habits that promote good health and sound training rules.
  • Create a positive and nurturing learning environment to instill and encourage youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Adhere to the directions given by the head coach and assist at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience with teaching and/or playing sports.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of sports.
  • Flexible schedule
  • Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
  • Previous experience working with children preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
