Job summary

Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges is seeking a mission-driven part-time youth sports instructor to support coaching and learning sessions for children. You will guide activities, ensure safety, and model YMCA values during practice and play.

You will teach according to YMCA guidelines, foster healthy living, and collaborate with families and officials to promote youth development and community spirit.

Qualifications

• Experience with teaching or playing sports.
• Knowledge of rules and regulations of sports.
• Flexible schedule.
• Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid.
• Previous experience with children preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in leading a challenging and educational practice session.
• Assist instruction of a group in accordance with YMCA guidelines and rules of the game.
• Uphold the four core values of the YMCA—Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
• Maintain good relationships with students, parents and sports officials.

Requirements

Essential Functions

• Assist in leading a challenging and educational practice session.
• Assist instruction of a group in accordance with YMCA guidelines and rules of the game.
• Uphold, model, teach and put the four (4) core values of the YMCA into action in all activities - everyday: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.
• Maintain good relationship with Students, parents and sports officials.
• Maintain professional appearance and report on time to all scheduled practices and games.
• Strive to develop the qualities of leadership, initiative and good judgement in all athletes.
• Develop habits that promote good health and sound training rules.
• Create a positive and nurturing learning environment to instill and encourage youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
• Adhere to the directions given by the head coach and assist at all times.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

• Experience with teaching and/or playing sports.
• Knowledge of rules and regulations of sports.
• Flexible schedule
• Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
• Previous experience working with children preferred.
• Must be able to demonstrate instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.

Salary Description

$16.53 per hour
