Job summary

McMurry University in Abilene, Texas seeks an assistant coach to support the Head Coach in all phases of the sports program, including coaching, scheduling, conditioning, contest preparation, and team travel planning.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree and familiarity with computers, scoreboards, and public address systems; evening and weekend hours are expected, with opportunities for advancement for those with graduate study or collegiate playing/coaching experience.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Coach in coaching, scheduling, conditioning, and contest preparation.
• Plan practices, scout opponents, and manage team travel.
• Assist with budget, purchasing and equipment care.
• Support student-athlete development academically and athletically.

Job description

Major/Essential Duties of the Job:

Assists the Head Coach in all phases of the sports program to include the following: coaching, scheduling, conditioning, contest preparation, scouting, practice planning, budget preparation, fund raising, purchasing and care of equipment, planning and supervision of team travel, and monitoring the personal, academic and athletic development of student-athletes.

4. Ability to interact with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Occasional duties:

As assigned by Head Coach or Athletic Director.

Required Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree. Knowledge and experience in coaching or playing assigned sport is required. Basic familiarity with computers, scoreboards, public address systems, etc. Evening, nighttime, and weekend hours are expected.

Preferred Education/Experience:

Master's degree. Previous experience in coaching or playing assigned sport at the collegiate level.
