Job summary

Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, TX is seeking a Claims Clerk assistant to support daily racing operations. You will handle phone inquiries, input foal papers and silks, and assist with race draws, maintaining accurate lists of jockeys and weights in the condition book.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma (or GED) and at least 1 year of related experience or training. You must pass a background check and be able to work in a fast-paced, noisy horse-racing environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be knowledgeable of the Rules of Racing.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service and professional conduct.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English.

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones and assist guests.
  • Take entries in booth and register foal papers & silks.
  • Input foal papers & silks into computer.
  • Assist with the race draw.
  • Maintain and update jockeys, agents, phone numbers and weights in the condition book.
  • Cross-check race pp's with Racing Form and Equibase for inaccuracies.
  • Check the workout rule on every horse entered and notify trainers of problems.
  • Inform Racing Secretary of horses needing workouts; keep list updated.
  • Assist the Claims Clerk during racing hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

General Definition:Responsible for helping the Claims Clerk on operations in regards to the claiming process.Essential Job Functions:Answers phonesTakes entries in boothRegisters foal papers & silksInputs foal papers & silks in computerAssists with the drawMaintains & updates list of jockeys, jockey agents, phone number & weight for the condition bookCross checks race PP’s with Racing Form and Equibase for any inaccuraciesChecks “workout rule” on every horse entered and notifies trainers of any problems.Informs Racing Secretary of horses who need workouts; maintains updated list.Assists the Claims Clerk during racing hoursOther duties as assigned.Education:High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 1 years related experience and/or training; or combination.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Must be knowledgeable of the Rules of Racing.Responsible for fostering a fun environment.Responsible for being gracious to all guests and co-workers.Responsible for promoting a positive influence in the community and participating in company-sponsored events.Enthusiastically supports, actively promotes and demonstrates superior customer service in accordance with department and company standards and programs.Ensures that behavior and appearance are in compliance with established standards.Maintains a professional work environment with management and staffAble to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environmentExcellent customer service/communication skillsMust meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy.Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.Written communication skills in English may also be required.Training:1 year work related experience and/or training; or combination.Licenses/Certifications/Other:Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency, if applicable to perform the essential job functionsTexas Racing Commission License (TXRC)Physical Requirements:The physical demands and work environment characteristics described are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
