ABOUT THE DIVISION: The Engineering Division includes three sections: Engineering, Traffic, and NPDES. It handles design and construction of water facilities, sewer lines, storm drains, streets, traffic signals, parks, and civic buildings. The division also manages the NPDES stormwater permit and maintains traffic-related infrastructure.
ABOUT THE POSITION: Under general supervision, the Assistant Civil Engineer performs professional and technical engineering tasks related to public works, private development, water, streets, storm drains, and sewer projects. Responsibilities include reviewing development projects, field data collection, permit issuance, map and plan preparation using CAD software, and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFYING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of: Municipal civil engineering principles, NPDES regulations, hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater programs, construction materials, traffic planning, surveying, customer service, and CAD software.
Skills and abilities include: Designing and drafting, preparing specifications and reports, conducting calculations, surveying, applying standards, managing contracts, communicating effectively, establishing relationships, organizing tasks, and using computer applications.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years of civil engineering experience with a local municipality and current enrollment or graduation from a civil engineering program at an accredited college or university. A valid Class C driver’s license and an E.I.T. certificate are desirable.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS: The role requires manual dexterity, physical stamina, and mental acuity to perform detailed work, interpret data, and communicate effectively under deadlines and interruptions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in both office and field settings, with exposure to noise, traffic, and weather conditions. Frequent driving is required for site inspections.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Employees are required to perform disaster service duties as needed.
