Job summary

Chenega Professional Services Strategic Business Unit is seeking an Assistant Chief of Administration, Health, Safety, and Logistics to lead strategic direction and oversight of health/safety programs, logistics, compliance, and administrative functions for the Fire Department.

Reporting to the Fire Chief, you will exercise independent judgment in program development, implementation, and evaluation to ensure personnel safety, readiness, and mission success.

Qualifications

• Six (6) years of progressively responsible fire service experience.
• Two (2) years of supervisory/leadership experience in personnel management or operational oversight.
• Experience developing or administering occupational safety, health, compliance, risk management, or emergency response programs preferred.
• Must possess and maintain Pro Board and/or IFSAC Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Fire Officer III, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander, Health and Safety Officer, Incident Safety Officer.
• NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800.
• Successful pass of background and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Administer programs supporting health, wellness, fitness, injury prevention, medical surveillance, rehabilitation, and return-to-work initiatives.
• Coordinate health maintenance activities to improve workforce readiness and operational performance.
• Collaborate with medical providers and stakeholders on employee health and wellness matters.
• Serve as Incident Safety Officer (ISO) per NFPA 1521 and department standards.
• Participate as a command staff member within the Incident Management System during emergencies.
• Monitor incident activities, conditions, and action plans to identify hazards.
• Evaluate operational risks and advise on risk mitigation strategies.
• Alter/suspend operations presenting imminent danger to personnel or assets.
• Communicate hazards, controls, and risk exposures to incident leadership.
• Develop/ deliver incident safety briefings and risk assessments.
• Supervise Assistant Incident Safety Officers as needed.
• Conduct post-incident safety reviews and program improvements.
• Coordinate with Logistics Officer to ensure resources are available.
• Support Emergency Operations Center activities as required.
• Advise leadership on safety, compliance, risk, and emergency issues.
• Participate in safety committees and working groups.
• Develop policy and resource recommendations.
• Maintain records, reports, certifications, and documentation.
