The City of Chicago Department of Transportation is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer to lead the Quality Assurance Section in the Division of Engineering. You will oversee the QA program for all transportation infrastructure projects, coordinating with other departments and stakeholders to ensure quality in material testing, plan review, and construction oversight.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering plus at least six years of work experience in planning, design and construction management of engineering projects.
• Master's degree in Civil Engineering plus at least five years of work experience in planning, design and construction management.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) is required in Illinois.
• A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.

Responsabilités

• Oversee the Quality Assurance Section within the Division of Engineering for infrastructure projects.
• Manage consultants responsible for the quality program for materials in the public right-of-way.
• Monitor the section budget and payments submitted by staff and consultants.
• Assign projects to staff and consultants and ensure compliance with specifications and budgets.
• Review concepts, designs, and contract documents for compliance with policy and design criteria.
• Meet with engineers and consultants to determine scope, costs, and specifications.
• Identify solutions to complex engineering problems and communicate with stakeholders and officials.
• Instruct and train personnel in engineering best practices; coordinate with other departments.
• Inspect construction methods, monitor progress, and ensure contract compliance.
• Travel for field surveys and gather data for planned improvements.
• Prepare reports on project status and costs; review consultant proposals for monitoring work.
• Provide technical information at hearings and research new materials/software.
