Job summary

City of Chicago Department of Transportation is seeking a Civil Engineer V to lead transportation infrastructure projects and supervise engineering staff. You will oversee consultants, monitor budgets, and ensure projects meet quality standards, scope, and timelines across Chicago neighborhoods.

The position requires a PE license in Illinois, a valid IL driver’s license, and the ability to pass a drug/physical test.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering plus 3 years Civil Engineering experience.
Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with 2 years supervisory experience.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) in Illinois is required upon employment.
Valid State of Illinois driver’s license required.
Note: Candidates must pass a drug/physical test prior to hire.

Responsibilities

Manages transportation infrastructure projects for Neighborhood Improvement.
Oversees design/construction by consultants for local transportation and urban design projects.
Monitors section budget and payments to staff and consultants.
Assigns projects to staff and consultants and tracks performance to meet specs, schedules, and budgets.
Reviews plans, documents, specifications, and calculations to ensure compliance and constructability.
Coordinates with stakeholders, officials, and residents on ongoing projects.
