Job summary

JLL is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer in San Diego, CA to lead day-to-day building operations, manage maintenance and ensure safety of critical systems. This role supervises engineers, coordinates contractors, and supports the Chief Engineer to achieve reliability and uptime in a demanding facility environment.

You will oversee preventative maintenance, monitor UPS and generators, and mentor staff while ensuring safe, efficient operation of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and life-safety

Qualifications

• 3-5 years in building operations or related skilled trades.
• Leadership or supervisory experience in engineering/facilities.
• EPA Universal CFC certification or willingness to obtain within 1 year.
• Proficiency with Word, Outlook, Excel and Teams.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication and organizational skills.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and climb ladders up to 30 ft.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotations, including nights/weekends.

Responsibilities

• Supervise engineering staff during shifts, monitoring quality and safety.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs, and service requests for critical systems.
• Monitor UPS, generators, switchgear, chillers, boilers, pumps and ventilation.
• Train and mentor staff on maintenance procedures and safety.
• Oversee contractors ensuring safety and proper work authorization.
• Maintain logs, readings, inventory, and equipment documentation.
• Support emergency procedures and after-hours projects as needed.
