Assistant Chief of Engineering Position Outline

The Assistant Chief of Engineering supervises and oversees the hotel's base building mechanical equipment, engineering operations, and engineering staff. The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Engineering Department and coordinating with the Area Chief Engineer, General Manager, and Senior Management Team to ensure all hotel needs and functions are properly supported.

• Strong working knowledge of hotel Engineering and building maintenance operations.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and practices.

• Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, maintenance instructions, and technical information.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct, coach, and support Engineering team members.

Requirements

• Minimum 2+ years of hotel Engineering experience in a similar or supervisory role required.
• Previous experience in a large, full-service, lifestyle, luxury, or major branded hotel preferred.
• Previous New York City hotel experience preferred.
• Pre-opening or new hotel opening experience is a plus.
• Hilton or Canopy brand experience is a plus.
• Strong HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and general building maintenance knowledge required.
• Experience supervising or directing Engineering team members preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical, trade, or vocational education preferred.
• Applicable trade licenses, certifications, or credentials are a plus.
• Must be available to work a flexible schedule based on hotel business needs, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.

Physical Demands

• The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
• Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and crawl while performing Engineering responsibilities.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment or materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to safely use ladders and work at elevated heights when required.
• Ability to work in mechanical spaces, confined areas, and other building environments.
• May be required to work in environments with varying temperatures, including hot and cold conditions.
• May regularly work around mechanical equipment and in areas with elevated noise levels.
• Ability to safely operate and handle tools, equipment, and machinery necessary to perform Engineering responsibilities.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of3+ years of experience in a hotel in a similar engineering role is required. The ideal candidate will be proven track record of working collaboratively with others to achieve desired results, as well as strong skills in problem analysis, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making.

EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Technical, vocational, or engineering-related training is a plus
