Job summary

City of Fremont is seeking an Assistant Chef to join the Human Services Department’s Age Well Centers. Under the Chef/Food Services Manager, you will work independently to manage daily kitchen operations and engage volunteers, including adults with disabilities.

You may substitute for the Chef in their absence and contribute to creating meaningful culinary experiences for participants. A focus on safety and inclusivity is essential.

Qualifications

• Eighteen months of experience in food preparation in a quantity food services facility; coursework may substitute for six months of experience.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety Standards in food preparation; basic math for recipes and portioning.
• Ability to develop cooperative working relationships with diverse individuals.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food and coordinates food service to meet participants' specifications, including ethnic and vegetarian cuisine.
• Ensures volunteers and staff follow sanitation standards and department procedures.
• Participates in inventory and receiving of food and kitchen supplies.
• Assists in all aspects of meal preparation and serving.
• Maintains kitchen equipment and ensures proper food temperatures and storage practices.
• Oversees use of kitchen knives and equipment; supports set up and break down of serving lines.
• Purchases needed food and supplies and assists with outdoor BBQs when seasonal.
• Works with Chef to suggest new meal options.
