Job summary

The Learning Experience - Lake Linganore is seeking an energetic Assistant Center Director to join our leadership team at the new early childhood education center in Lake Linganore, MD. You will mentor teachers, build relationships with families, and help the school succeed.

This hands-on leader will support classroom operations, ensure licensing compliance, and drive enrollment growth while maintaining a positive, collaborative culture across the center.

Qualifications

• Must meet Maryland Office of Child Care qualifications for assigned leadership responsibilities.
• Previous experience in a licensed childcare or preschool setting is required.
• 2+ years of childcare leadership, supervisory, or administrative experience preferred.
• Assistant Director, Center Director, or Lead Teacher experience strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of Maryland childcare licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily childcare center operations with the Center Director.
• Recruit, onboard, coach, and develop teaching staff.
• Support teacher scheduling, staffing, and classroom ratios.
• Conduct classroom observations and provide coaching.
• Support implementation of LEAP Curriculum.
• Ensure compliance with Maryland childcare licensing, health and safety requirements.
• Conduct family tours and support enrollment growth and retention.
• Build strong relationships with families and address questions.
• Maintain licensing documentation and center records.
• Coordinate family events and community engagement activities.
• Step into classrooms to support children and teachers.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable team environment.

Salary: $55,000-$60,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications

What You'll Do

• Partner with the Center Director to oversee daily childcare center operations
• Recruit, onboard, coach, and develop teaching staff
• Support teacher scheduling, staffing, and required classroom ratios
• Conduct classroom observations and provide meaningful feedback and coaching
• Support implementation of The Learning Experience's L.E.A.P. Curriculum
• Ensure compliance with Maryland Office of Child Care licensing, health, and safety requirements
• Conduct prospective family tours and support enrollment growth and retention
• Build strong relationships with families and address questions or concerns
• Maintain accurate licensing documentation, employee records, and center administration
• Help coordinate family events and community engagement activities
• Step into classrooms when needed to support children and teachers
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable team environment

Qualifications

• Must meet applicable Maryland Office of Child Care qualifications for the assigned leadership responsibilities
• Previous professional experience in a licensed childcare or preschool setting required
• At least 2 years of childcare leadership, supervisory, or administrative experience preferred
• Previous Assistant Director, Center Director, or Lead Teacher experience strongly preferred
• Associate or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred
• Strong understanding of Maryland childcare licensing requirements
• Experience mentoring, coaching, or supervising teaching teams
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable conducting family tours and supporting enrollment
• Passionate about early childhood education and creating a positive school culture
