Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory is seeking an Assistant Camp Director / Youth Program Specialist to support Camp CONNRI and year-round youth programming from the Divisional Headquarters in Hartford & Ashford, CT. The role entails on-site summer camp leadership, staff coordination, and program development within a Christian education context.

Qualifications include a high school diploma (associate/bachelor’s preferred), 2+ years with youth programming, and proven leadership.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred in Education, Christian Ministry, Youth Ministry, Recreation, Camping Administration, Social Services, Child and Youth Development, or related field.
• Relevant coursework, professional certifications, or significant related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Willing to complete and maintain required training and certifications related to youth programming, camping, child safety, and program operations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a positive and professional representative of The Salvation Army.
• Actively recruit summer camp staff.
• Keep current with licensing regulations and ACA standards, preparing all inspections.
• Assist DYS with all State, ACA, and camp staff paperwork.
• Process summer employment packets in coordination with Human Resources.
• Maintain time and attendance records and other employment records.
• Assist in staff orientation and training.
• Process camper applications with Corps/Service Unit liaisons for proper filing and check-in.
• Plan and provide Christian Spiritual Formation resources for summer camp.
• Live on-site at Camp during the summer session.
• Support camp staff supervisors with daily program and staffing.
• Participate in Youth Department planning meetings, taking minutes and providing feedback.
• Assist in Youth Commission meetings as directed.
• Prepare administrative needs for youth programs and assist at off-camp activities.
• Participate in youth-related divisional and territorial seminars.
• Assist in clerical duties including birthday cards, camp assessments, events, and registrations.
• Order supplies from THQ and other venues.
• Serve as a resource for Sunday School programs, Salvation Army troops, and discipleship.
• Maintain open communication with Corps Officers to support growth in youth programs.
• Respond to questions via email/phone/mail promptly.
• Adhere to Employment guidelines of The Salvation Army.
• Complete required training and certifications related to program operations.
