Surya is seeking an organized, creative, and detail-oriented Assistant Buyer to support our Off-Price and Mass Merchant Accent Rug Division. You will help develop compelling assortments for our retail partners—from researching trends and reviewing samples to coordinating vendor follow-up and preparing for buyer meetings.

This role blends the creative side of home merchandising with the organization and follow-through needed to move products forward.

Qualifications

• Experience in buying or assistant buying preferred.
• Off-price retail experience is valuable.
• Experience with rugs, design, social media, or trend forecasting is a plus.
• Strong eye for fashion, color, and design in home goods.
• Excellent organization and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support assortment planning and development across accent rug programs.

Surya is seeking an organized, creative, and detail-oriented Assistant Buyer to support our Off-Price and Mass Merchant Accent Rug Division.

Reporting directly to the head of the division, you’ll help develop compelling assortments for our retail partners—from researching trends and reviewing samples to coordinating vendor follow-up and preparing for buyer meetings.

This role combines the creative side of home merchandising with the organization and follow-through needed to move products forward. We’re especially interested in candidates with buying or assistant buying experience in off-price retail. Rug experience is a plus, but it is not required.

The position is approximately 90% remote. Candidates in the New York City metropolitan area are preferred, with availability for occasional in-person showroom visits for buyer meetings, sample reviews, and creative development.

In this role, you will:

• Support assortment planning, product selection, and development across accent rug programs.
• Research home and fashion trends, colors, materials, and competitive retail assortments.
• Coordinate sample requests, track development progress, and organize feedback and follow-up.
• Help prepare product presentations, assortment reviews, and materials for buyer meetings.
• Maintain accurate product information, costing spreadsheets, and development trackers.
• Communicate clearly with vendors and internal teams to keep projects organized and on schedule.
• Participate in showroom meetings, sample reviews, and creative discussions.

We’re looking for someone with:

• A strong eye for fashion, color, design, and trends in the home industry.
• Excellent organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• The initiative and follow-through to work effectively in a primarily remote role.
• Comfort working with Excel, spreadsheets, and presentation materials.
• Availability for occasional in-person showroom meetings.
• Previous buying, assistant buying, merchandising, or related product experience is preferred. Off-price retail experience is especially valuable. Experience in rugs, design, social media, or trend forecasting is a plus.
