Job summary

Diversicare is seeking an Accounting Clerk to support post-acute care billing and financial records. You will manage cash receipts, invoices, and resident accounts while ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities include reconciling bank statements, coordinating collections with the Administrator, and maintaining Medicare/Medicaid logs. The role requires attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills to work with residents and families.

Qualifications

  • Two years of college accounting courses or equivalent experience.
  • 1–2 years accounting or bookkeeping experience in long-term care or skilled nursing.
  • Clerical ability to detect and avoid posting errors.

Responsibilities

  • Record cash receipts in the proper company or resident account.
  • Assemble invoices and statements for accounts payable and post to the general ledger.
  • Maintain billing and financial information on resident files.
  • Maintain resident trust accounts and balance monthly.
  • Maintain petty cash and reconcile as required.
  • Prepare month-end close information for Regional Office.
  • Reconcile bank statements monthly.
  • Coordinate collections with Administrator.
  • Process and explain bills to residents and third parties.
  • Maintain Medicare/Medicaid logs and cost reports.
  • Record payables/receivables and month-end accruals.
  • Ensure accurate billing through reimbursement knowledge.
  • Maintain confidentiality and effective communication with residents, families and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Records cash receipts in the proper company or resident account.
  • Assembles invoices and corresponding statements for accounts payable and prepares the necessary credit memo; posts disbursements to the general ledger and completes entries through the trial balance.
  • Maintains necessary billing and financial information on resident business files.
  • Maintains resident trust accounts, balances monthly, and sends statements to residents as required.
  • Maintains general petty cash and resident trust petty cash and makes necessary disbursements; receives appropriate signatures and posts transactions.
  • Accumulates records from the department managers and accomplishes the month-end closing, reporting all necessary information for Regional Office.
  • Reconciles bank statements, monthly.
  • Performs and coordinates all collection efforts with Administrator.
  • Sends bills monthly to residents and third party agencies; maintains accurate records of payor sources, addresses, telephone numbers, etc.; explains bills to residents as necessary and maintains appropriate back-up records.
  • Maintains Medicare/Medicaid logs and prepares information for year-end audits and cost reports.
  • Maintains system for recording payables/receivables and accurately completes month-end accruals for charges not yet billed and payables not yet received.
  • Knowledge of reimbursement system, allowable services and documentation required so billings are accurate.
  • Reconciles room and board to monthly census.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information.
  • Maintains effective communication with residents, families and facility staff.
Qualifications
  • Two years of college level accounting courses are required or equivalent experience.
  • One to two years experience in accounting or bookkeeping in long term care or the skilled nursing setting is required.
  • Clerical ability required to detect and avoid errors in posting figures between accounts.
  • Knowledge of adding machines and computer software.
  • Good interpersonal and customer services skills needed to effectively work with residents, families and outside agencies.
