Position Number: 006006004
The Office of the Attorney General has an opening for an Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Division. The primary responsibilities include prosecuting referrals from the Fraud, Investigation and Recovery Unit of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) for fraud involving TANF, Food Stamps, ASPIRE, and other benefits. This attorney will provide legal advice and collaborate with DHHS investigators to develop welfare fraud cases across the state. Once a case is referred, the AAG will review and bring criminal charges as appropriate. The position focuses on criminal prosecutions in the Unified Criminal Docket and appellate cases before the Law Court. Candidates should have a strong interest in litigation, with trial experience and skills being advantageous. Essential qualities include high ethical standards, sound judgment, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and good organizational and time management abilities. Candidates must be members of the Maine Bar in good standing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This is not an entry-level position. Applicants must be Maine Bar members in good standing, detail-oriented, interested in complex state and federal regulations, possess strong legal advocacy and writing skills, and demonstrate effective teamwork. One to three years of legal practice with proficiency in criminal law is preferred.
