Job description

Position Summary: The Assistant Athletics Trainer reports to the Head Athletic Trainer. This position assists in all aspects of the Sports Medicine Department. It oversees the health and safety of student-athletes on assigned teams, with specific teams determined by the Head Athletic Trainer. The role also involves inventory tracking, pre-season medical clearance, and maintaining the athletics training room.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Maintain the overall Sports Medicine Department, including injury care and prevention, injury evaluation and management, and education for student-athletes and coaches.
  2. Maintain accurate medical documentation for student-athletes.
  3. Ensure proper injury and treatment tracking.
  4. Communicate effectively with team physicians (Orthopedic and Sports Medicine).
  5. Contribute to departmental growth by proposing new ideas related to Nutrition, Cardiac Health, Mental Wellness, Concussion research, etc.
  6. Assist in managing daily operations of the athletics training room.
  7. Provide proper coverage during athletic activities for assigned teams, including practices and games, both home and away.
  8. Assist with insurance claim processes as needed.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of student-athlete injuries and illnesses.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Certification through the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
  • Two years of experience in athletic training
  • AED/CPR Certification (Professional Rescuer)
  • Excellent written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field
  • Two years of experience in Division I or Division II collegiate athletics
  • Knowledge of SportsWare injury tracking system
  • Experience with file management and documentation
  • Experience with insurance claims and filing processes
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
