GENERAL OVERVIEW:
Assists physicians and extenders in providing proper medical and clerical support for the various orthopedic practice locations.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- After appropriate training and documented competency, performs procedures such as wound care, dressings, EKGs, suture/staple removal, orthopedic cast/splint application and removal, injections, vaccines, Botox, phlebotomy for PRP, and ultrasound assistance.
- Coordinates patient care under the supervision of healthcare providers.
- Prepares and rooms patients, documenting health information, history, and medications. Interviews patients and orders radiographs per physician protocols.
- Documents all pertinent details in the electronic health record, reviews and updates allergy, medication, social, medical, surgical history, and pain screening. May function as a scribe with proper training.
- Supports clinic workflow by functioning as a scribe when needed.
- Performs pre-visit chart management, obtains diagnostic reports, and reviews charts for completeness. Scans outside findings as necessary.
- Educates patients on wound, pin, cast, and postoperative care per provider instructions.
- Prepares exam rooms, maintains inventory, and ensures supplies are stocked. Certified Medical Assistants or Athletic Trainers may administer medications if qualified.
- Travels to satellite locations to support physicians.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Proof of graduation from an approved Medical Assistant School within five years or relevant experience as determined by the company. Alternatively, graduate from an accredited athletic training program.
- Medical Assistant Certification or Athletic Trainer Licensure within 120 days of hire.
- CPR – American Heart Association
- Act 34, Act 33, and Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearances
Preferred:
- 3-5 years’ experience as an Orthopedic Technician, Medical Assistant, or Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC).
