Head Athletic Trainer at D'Youville University

Purpose of Position:

To assist in providing sports medicine and athletic training services to intercollegiate athletic teams under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, Team Physician(s), and other qualified medical personnel.

This is a 10-month, full-time position, including university benefits. Two positions are available.

  1. Coordinate with the Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletic Trainer to provide athletic training coverage, including attendance at scheduled team practices and home and away competitions as necessary.
  2. Provide athletic training services for the athletic department, including prevention, recognition, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries.
  3. Provide game and practice coverage including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  4. Collaborate with physicians and other allied health professionals to deliver appropriate care and referrals to student-athletes.
  5. Assist with the supervision, daily operations, and maintenance of the athletic training facilities.
  6. Assist Head Athletic Trainer with administrative duties as assigned.
  7. Follow established emergency plans for D'Youville athletic facilities, including off-campus venues.
  8. Follow and assist with enforcement of all policies/procedures as outlined within the Athletic Training Room policy/procedure manual, including codes of conduct and rules of use for the athletic training facility and equipment.
  9. Assist in maintaining accurate medical records on all injuries, treatments, rehabilitation, and physician referrals.
  10. Serve as a liaison for student-athletes between physicians, coaches, athletes, parents, and other healthcare providers as needed.
  11. Apply a team approach with the Head Athletic Trainer and Coaches to ensure student-athletes participate only when physically able and that physician instructions are understood and followed.
  12. Comply with all policies regarding healthcare delivery as indicated by the College’s regulations.
  13. Assist with the collection, maintenance, and privacy of all student-athletes’ current contact, emergency contact, health insurance, consent, and health-status waivers.
  14. Provide for the prevention of athletic injuries through protective tapings, wraps, braces, equipment, and assist in designing practices to reduce injury incidence.
  15. Provide immediate care of athletic injuries and refer athletes to emergency medical facilities when necessary.
  16. Educate athletes on health-related issues, including nutrition and substance abuse.
  17. Operate the program under the rules and regulations of the College, NCAA, and ECC; understanding that violations can lead to suspension or termination.
  18. Perform other duties as requested by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Required (Professional) Credentials:

  • Current certification in CPR/AED.
  • Must be licensed or eligible for licensing in the state of New York.
  • Current NATABOC certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training; master's preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Health, Human Performance, or related field with one (1) year of clinical experience as a BOC Athletic Trainer.
  • or Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area with three (3) years of clinical experience as a BOC Athletic Trainer.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in delivering student-athletic healthcare.
  • Ability to work under conditions requiring moderate physical effort and exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Experience working with acrobatics and tumbling is preferred but not required.
