Job description

Supervise dental students and/or residents in patient care activities at WesternU The Dental Center or other CDM locations. Collaborate with clinic administration to ensure an efficient, humanistic, and patient-centered clinic operation that provides high-quality care. Educate students according to College of Dental Medicine (CDM) standards. Provide direct treatment across a broad range of general dentistry services as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. Recognized knowledge and experience in a broad range of general dentistry diagnostic and treatment services.
2. Effective communication skills, both written and oral, for individuals and groups.
3. Ability to interact positively with diverse backgrounds, including administration, faculty, residents, students, staff, patients, and external contacts.
4. Competence in managing detailed assignments and maintaining confidentiality.
5. Ability to handle multiple responsibilities effectively in an academic setting.

Required Qualifications

1. Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), or equivalent.
2. Active California dental license or eligibility for licensure or faculty special permit.
3. Valid Driver’s License and a Motor Vehicle Report meeting WesternU Vehicle Use Policy.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Completion of a residency in General Practice Residency or Advanced Education in General Dentistry.
2. Minimum 3 years of clinical practice experience.
3. Experience supervising students and residents in an academic setting.

Work Hours

Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, with potential for earlier start times. Some evenings and weekends may be required. Travel between CDM clinical sites in Pomona, El Monte, Chino Hills, and Rancho Mirage may be necessary.

Essential Job Duties

1. Teaching: Supervise, assist, and teach diagnosis, treatment planning, and performance of general dentistry procedures, including digital dentistry, removable prosthodontics, endodontics, surgical extractions, and complex cases. Serve as a role model, provide feedback, and adhere to CDM protocols.
2. Scholarship: Engage in professional development, maintain continuing education, and utilize evidence-based pedagogical techniques. Contribute to scholarly activities when opportunities arise.
3. Research: Participate in research projects and studies aligned with university and college plans, as time permits.
4. Service: Serve on committees and participate in professional and community service activities.
5. Clinical/Professional Practice: Provide direct patient care, maintain electronic health record proficiency, and participate in credentialing, quality assurance, and outcomes monitoring.
6. Other duties as assigned.
