Senior Staff Attorney or Staff Attorney, Workers' Compensation

Join our team as a Senior Staff Attorney or Staff Attorney, Workers' Compensation at The Hartford.

This in-house position involves managing a caseload of Workers' Compensation cases, appearing before the California Workers' Compensation Boards in Riverside, San Diego, Santa Ana, Pomona, and San Bernardino.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive research, and develop well-reasoned legal strategies.
  • Create and present defense strategies independently.
  • Prepare pleadings, discovery, depositions, motions, and briefs to support defense strategies autonomously.
  • Partner with Claims Partners to achieve optimal results for our insureds.
  • Provide legal advice, communicate effectively with courts, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel with professionalism.
  • Manage case dispositions efficiently and effectively.
  • Prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, hearings, arbitrations, and mediations.
  • Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs.
  • Participate in team meetings, provide in-house training, review claims files, and attend CLE seminars.
Qualifications
Staff Attorney:
  • Minimum 3 years of legal experience handling complex Workers’ Compensation cases.
  • JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in California.
  • Trial experience preferred.
  • Positive, collaborative attitude and strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; LexisNexis experience is a plus.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
Senior Staff Attorney:
  • Minimum 5 years of legal experience in complex workers’ compensation cases.
  • Same educational and licensing requirements as Staff Attorney.
  • Trial experience preferred.
  • Strong legal research, writing skills, and proficiency in MS Office and LexisNexis.
  • Self-directed with excellent organizational skills.
Additional Information

This position is remote, with travel requirements of 1-4 days per week within specified California regions. We offer flexible work arrangements and a business casual environment.

Compensation

The annual base pay ranges from $114,800 to $192,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include bonuses, incentives, and recognition programs.
