In response to the State of North Carolina's initiative to "engineer a smart and secure future", the William States Lee College of Engineering (LCoE) at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for multiple full-time tenure-track positions at the academic ranks of assistant/associate professor for candidates conducting research in the areas of bioengineering/biomedical engineering. The positions will be housed in either the departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science. We are particularly interested in those with experience in leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning, biomanufacturing, big data and digital twins to address today's engineering challenges. Potential specific domain areas include, but are not limited to; biomaterials, bioelectronic interfaces, bio nano engineered systems, biomedical imaging/sensors, immunoengineering, molecular engineering, nanomedicine, and neuroengineering.

These positions are part of a large investment by the State of North Carolina and the University. Successful candidates are expected to benefit from collaborative opportunities arising from recent hires. This initiative also encompasses the potential growth of university undergraduate and graduate programs. Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute, Atrium Health Levine Children's, Atrium Health Neurosciences Institute, and Wake Forest School of Medicine (with a regional campus in Charlotte) would provide an excellent clinical environment for interactions and translation.

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in an appropriate engineering discipline or another closely related field and have a background aligning with one of the listed research foci. In addition, they must demonstrate significant accomplishments or outstanding potential in scholarship, teaching, and research, corresponding to the rank of appointment.
Successful candidates are expected to: 1) develop and sustain nationally and internationally recognized, externally funded research programs as evidenced by high-quality publications and successful mentoring of students; 2) contribute to teaching and course development at both the graduate and undergraduate levels; and 3) demonstrate an ability to engage in a multicultural environment.

Primary Purpose of Department	The Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science department is internationally recognized for research programs in advanced manufacturing, precision metrology, battery research, energy engineering, control systems, computational mechanics, materials, heat transfer as well as emerging areas of research focus such as hypersonics, and autonomous vehicles. The department is home to the Center for Precision Metrology and the new Battery Complexity, Autonomous Vehicle and Electrification Research Center (BATT CAVE). The department also has strong participation in the College's Energy Production and Infrastructure Center (EPIC), the NSF supported Center for Freeform Optics (CeFO), and the School of Data Science. The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) includes options for a concentration in Biomedical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Motorsports, and Precision Engineering and Metrology, with a fifth concentration, Aerospace Engineering, in the final implementation stages. UNC Charlotte's Master of Science and PhD Programs in mechanical engineering are both nationally ranked. The mission of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at UNC Charlotte is to develop human and intellectual resources in all disciplines of Electrical and Computer Engineering and their applications in order to foster technological, economic, and social growth in the Charlotte region, the State of North Carolina, and beyond. The ECE department offers B.S. and M.S. degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering, with approximately 650 undergraduate and 175 graduate students. The ECE Department currently comprises 37 full-time faculty members who are actively engaged in research and teaching in the broad areas of computer systems, communications, controls, signal/image processing, electronics devices, and power and energy systems. The Center for Biomedical Engineering and Science at UNC Charlotte has over 70 Associates and promotes interdisciplinary research among its faculty members in the Colleges of Engineering, Science, and Health and Human Services and with researchers and clinicians at Atrium Health, Levine Cancer Institute, Canon Research Center, OrthoCarolina, and Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine. In addition, Wake Forest Medical School is building a second campus in Charlotte within the Pearl Innovation District.
