Responsibilities

Academics and Teaching

• Participate in the instruction of medical students within thecollege through lecture, small group experiences (problem andcase-based learning). Topics include but are not limited to basicosteopathic manipulative medicine, clinical skills, clinicaldecision-making (differential diagnosis) and general medicalknowledge.
• Participate directly in the instruction and development ofclinical learning experience in the 4-year continuum of medicalstudent education in geriatrics as defined in the primary caredepartment's division of geriatrics.
• Precept medical students within the clinical setting, by givingformal and informal clinical instruction and supervision.
• Precept students of other colleges or graduate programs.
• Participate in graduate medical education as it correlates withthe college.

Clinical - MatureCare

MatureCare is aclinical arm of UNE COM that provides Medical Direction andClinical Attending services at 12 post-acute/ long term Care/Assisted Living facilities in Central and Southern Maine. Thegroup consists of Primary Care Physicians and Nurse Practitionersthat provide Primary Care services within the facilities.MatureCare also provides clinical experiences for UNE COM students'years 1-4 supervised by Faculty Physicians within the group. Dutiesinclude:

• Provide direct medical care to patients of MatureCare that ispatient centered and team oriented and bedside teaching toosteopathic medical students.
• Develop and maintain a financially viable clinic practice thatis conducted in an ethical, patient centered practice in accordwith generally accepted standards of care. Provide medicaldirection and oversight in facility-based care.
• Provide backup or primary services in hospice and palliativecare
• Review, analyze and determine the significance of a broad arrayof health care concerns, diagnostic tests and treatment plansincluding the effective use of consultants.
• Participate in and provide information for Quality Improvementinitiatives for MatureCare and UNE.
• Participate in on‑call coverage including nights and weekendson a shared basis with other practitioners in the same clinicaldiscipline.
• Provide timely, effective and appropriate documentation of medical services.
• Provide formal and informal instruction and supervision formedical students, residents and health professionals
• Coordinate and monitor patient care rendered by students andresidents being supervised.
• Prepare evaluations of residents and students supervised in athorough and timely manner.
• Participate in community relation efforts to enhance the reputation, visibility and credibility of University Health Careand UNE.
• Conduct and mentor scholarly activity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA, HIPAA and safety trainingrequirements of UNE as specified in the employee manual.

Qualifications

Board Certified DO or MD Physician in Family Medicine/InternalMedicine/Geriatrics. Comfort with performance and teaching basicskills in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine is preferred.

• Curricular and teaching experience in formal and informalteaching, and learner supervision and evaluation (preferred).
• Clinical practice experience of at least 5 years(preferred).
• Experience/expertise in holistic long term care medicine.
• Experience in bedside clinical teaching/precepting(preferred).
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
• Have or be eligible for Maine licensure to practice.
