Job summary

The New Canaan YMCA is seeking an experienced, mature Aquatics professional for a full-time Assistant Aquatics Director role. You will lead aquatics staff, manage lifeguard schedules and pool operations, and assist with program development and annual budgeting.

The position requires current lifeguarding certifications and a minimum of 1 year of leadership experience, with some evenings and weekends expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience is preferred.
• Must hold current certifications in Lifeguarding (including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid, Waterfront Skills, Lifeguard Instructor, and Y Water Safety Swim Instructor.
• Ages: 21+ due to Connecticut state regulations for summer camp responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Ensure a safe and caring environment for all members and staff.
• Provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to aquatics staff.
• Assist Senior Director with program development, annual budget, and forecasting.
• Track staff certifications and monitor expiration dates.
• Actively guard and/or instruct as needed.
• Schedule and coordinate lifeguarding staff and pool schedules.
• Lead staff meetings and training with Senior Director of Aquatics.
• Support summer camps, waterfronts, and off-site activities as needed.
