Job summary

New Canaan YMCA, part of the YMCA of the USA network, seeks an Assistant Aquatics Director to lead lifeguard scheduling, pool operations, and certification courses. You will coordinate staff for summer camps, oversee aquatics programs, and assist in budgeting and program development under the Senior Director of Aquatics.

The role requires current lifeguard certifications, leadership experience, and a 21+ age requirement per state regulations.

Qualifications

• Must hold current Lifeguarding certification including Deep Water with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid.
• Must hold Waterfront Skills, Lifeguard Instructor, and Y Water Safety Swim Instructor or obtain Lifeguard Instructor and Y Swim Instructor within 6 months.
• Age 21+ due to Connecticut state regulations for summer camp responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide lifeguard schedules and pool schedules for the facility.
• Coordinate lifeguard certification courses and staff instruction.
• Oversee pool maintenance and cleanliness routines.

Job description

he New Canaan YMCA is home to 3 indoor pools in our facility, and over the summer also provides oversight and staffing to our summer camps and off-site swim instruction.

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Aquatics, the Assistant Aquatics Director will provide lifeguard schedules, pool schedules, lifeguard certification courses, lifeguard duties, pool maintenance (cleaning, polishing, etc.), act as point of contact for or aquatics staff, and assist Senior Director of Aquatics in other duties including swim instruction administration, annual budget and forecasting, and program implementation and development. Additionally, the Assistant Aquatics Director will set up lifeguards for summer camps, waterfronts and activities as needed. The Assistant Aquatics Director will provide department leadership and guidance along with the Senior Director of Aquatics as well as in their absence.

• Must hold current certifications in: Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid, Waterfront Skills, Lifeguard Instructor, and Y Water Safety Swim Instructor (or obtain Lifeguard Instructor and Y Swim Instructor within 6 months of start date).
• Possess the following skills: problem solving, communication, and critical thinking. Must be mature, dependable, professional.
• Minimum of 1 year of leadership experience is preferred.
• The age requirement for this position is 21 due to Connecticut State regulations for summer camp responsibilities.
