Job summary

New Canaan Community YMCA, Inc. is seeking lifeguards to ensure a safe and welcoming aquatic environment for swimmers of all ages. Shifts are flexible, including early mornings and weekends, and employees receive a free YMCA membership.

Responsibilities include constant surveillance, swift and professional emergency response, and enforcing pool rules while communicating with swimmers and staff. Must hold American Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent and be able to swim 300 yards non-stop.

Qualifications

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate or equivalent.
• Ability to swim continuously for 300 yards.
• Perform all tasks necessary for water rescue.
• Observe surroundings and communicate with swimmers and staff to maintain safety.
• Follow safety rules and pool policies at all times.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality surveillance in pool areas.
• Respond quickly and professionally to emergencies.
• Enforce pool rules and maintain order on deck.
• Assist with daily pool operations and shift coverage.

Calling all Lifeguards!!Join the New Canaan Community YMCA team and help create a safe, welcoming, and fun environment for swimmers of all ages. If you’re responsible, attentive, and passionate about water safety, we’d love to have you on our team! Make a splash and help keep our community safe, one swim at a time!Working as a lifeguard gives great flexibility, working one (or several!) shifts a week, at a time that meets your availability. An added bonus is that every employee recieves free membership to our Y!Our pools are open from 5:30am to 9pm during the week, 7:30am to 6:30pm on Saturdays, and 7:30am to 5pm on Sundays - shifts are usually 3 hours.Join our team, working in our beautiful Aquatic Center - home to 3 pools (2 competitive and one family/therapy pool).Shifts can be flexible based on interest and staffing needs - and Early Shifts and Weekends have an hourly wage pay differential!Under the direction of the Senior Director of Aquatics, lifeguards provide quality surveillance, and act swiftly and professionally in emergency situations.We expect our Lifeguards to be observant to their surroundings, understanding of safety rules and policies, and able to communicate with swimmers, instructors, and other staff to maintain order and safety in the pool and on deck.Requirements include:American Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate or equivalent.Ability to swim continuously for 300 yards.Perform all tasks necessary for water rescue.See attached job description for full details.
